For Dr. Ashwani Devgune, professional growth has been shaped by a commitment to developing energy infrastructure while fostering collaboration across diverse international environments.
As General Manager – International Business at POWERGRID Corporation of India Limited, he has worked on strategic transmission projects, cross-border energy initiatives, and public-private partnership models across multiple countries. His responsibilities have involved navigating complex stakeholder environments while contributing to projects that support regional connectivity and long-term infrastructure development.
Over time, these experiences highlighted an important reality: technical expertise alone is not always sufficient when leading large-scale international initiatives.
Understanding the Human Side of Leadership
While working across different countries and organizational contexts, Dr. Devgune increasingly recognized the importance of cultural intelligence, people management, and strategic leadership.
Managing international projects often requires bringing together diverse teams, aligning multiple stakeholders, and navigating different cultural and operational environments. These experiences reinforced the belief that effective leadership depends not only on technical competence, but also on the ability to engage people, build relationships, and create shared direction across geographical boundaries.
This realization ultimately motivated him to pursue the Professional Doctorate (PD) in Human Resource Management at European International University (EIU–Paris).

Reflecting on his experience at EIU–Paris, Dr. Devgune shares:

The doctoral journey provided an opportunity to explore leadership development, organizational behaviour, and global human resource strategies from both academic and practical perspectives.
Through his experience on leadership development in multinational corporations, he examined how organizations can effectively manage employees across different cultural and operational environments. This experience also encouraged deeper reflection on the relationship between people, leadership, and organizational performance within increasingly globalized workplaces.
One of the most valuable aspects of the programme was the ability to integrate academic learning with ongoing professional responsibilities, allowing leadership concepts and research insights to be explored alongside real-world challenges.
Applying Leadership in Global Settings
Today, Dr. Devgune continues to apply these perspectives in international business development, stakeholder engagement, and strategic partnerships involving governments, utilities, multilateral institutions, and private sector organizations.
His work reflects the growing importance of leadership capabilities in environments where technical, commercial, and cultural considerations increasingly intersect. As organizations expand across borders and operate within more interconnected systems, the ability to lead diverse teams and build effective partnerships becomes an essential component of long-term success.
