Bridging Compassionate Care and Evidence-Based Practice

A Clinical Journey Rooted in Human Experience

For more than two decades, Dr. Aisling Killoran, a Psychotherapist and Clinical Hypnotherapist based in Ireland, has worked closely with individuals seeking support for emotional well-being and personal change.

Through years of one-to-one clinical practice, she observed how emotional stress, unhelpful belief patterns, and unresolved experiences can profoundly influence a person’s health and overall quality of life. Her therapeutic approach has therefore focused on creating safe and supportive environments where individuals feel understood, empowered, and capable of lasting change.

Over time, these clinical insights shaped her interest in deeper academic exploration and research.

Integrating Clinical Practice with Doctoral Research

Motivated by this question, Dr. Killoran pursued doctoral research in Lifestyle Medicine, with the intention of connecting extensive therapeutic experience with structured academic inquiry. Her goal was to explore how emotionally informed interventions could contribute to meaningful health outcomes within real clinical settings.

She undertook advanced academic training facilitated by Lifestyle Prescriptions® University, with the programme academically validated by European International University – Paris. Following successful completion with distinction, she was formally conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Lifestyle Medicine by EIU–Paris.

This academic pathway enabled her to integrate clinical insight with research methodology, strengthening her analytical skills, critical thinking, and scholarly confidence while continuing to engage with the realities of therapeutic practice.

Research Exploring Emotional Health and Well-Being

Dr. Killoran’s doctoral research focused on the clinical study titled “How effective are Emotional Freedom Tapping techniques in addressing limiting beliefs in females with unexplained infertility.”

The research explored how emotional stress and deeply held belief patterns may influence health outcomes, reflecting the holistic and root-cause perspective that underpins her clinical work. By examining the relationship between emotional wellbeing and physical health, the study contributes to a growing body of research within Lifestyle Medicine that seeks to better understand the role of emotional and psychological factors in overall health.

A key milestone in this journey was the publication of her research in Lifestyle Medicine Research and Reviews. Participating in the academic publication process further refined her research voice and reinforced the importance of translating evidence-based insights into practical applications that can support individuals in everyday life.

Strengthening the Connection Between Science and Compassion

Reflecting on her doctoral journey, Dr. Killoran shares:

“Completing my academic journey through EIU–Paris strengthened my confidence as both a clinician and a researcher. It reinforced my commitment to evidence-informed practice and enabled me to contribute knowledge that bridges science and compassionate care.”

Today, her work continues to support individuals, particularly women, in developing sustainable health, resilience, and well-being. Her journey illustrates how clinical experience and academic research can complement one another, creating space for both scientific understanding and compassionate care to inform the future of Lifestyle Medicine.
