For experienced professionals, academic study can offer new perspectives on challenges already familiar from the workplace. Professional experience provides the context, while structured study creates opportunities to examine problems, test ideas, and consider different approaches.
This connection was central to the MBA journey of Ibrahim Sorie Kamara-kay. While serving as Head of Monitoring and Compliance at the Anti-Corruption Commission of Sierra Leone, Mr. Kamara-kay pursued the Master of Business Administration in Finance at European International University (EIU-Paris), bringing his experience across monitoring, compliance, finance, and governance into his studies.
For Mr. Kamara-kay, the value of this approach was practical. His professional environment provided real challenges to consider, while his studies offered new ways to examine them. Following the completion of his MBA, his professional journey continued into a new chapter when he joined the UNICEF Sierra Leone Country Office as Risk and Compliance Specialist.
Bringing Study into Practice
Throughout the MBA, Mr. Kamara-kay approached his studies with practical problem-solving in mind. Drawing on his professional experience, he examined institutional and financial challenges through a structured academic perspective.
Through Action Research, he explored compliance challenges by testing interventions and refining possible solutions through evidence and reflection. Across other areas of the programme, he examined monitoring, financial analysis, and decision-making in ways relevant to professional practice.
Reflecting on the experience, Mr. Kamara-kay shared:
“Studying at EIU-Paris has significantly reshaped how I think, analyse, and lead in complex institutional environments. The programme strengthened my ability to engage with financial and governance challenges critically, evaluate evidence with discipline, and respond with practical, ethical, and context-aware solutions.”
His reflection speaks to a broader part of his MBA experience. Beyond individual modules and assignments, he credits the programme with strengthening the knowledge, skills, and professional judgement he brings to financial and governance challenges.
Continuing the Journey
Following the completion of his MBA, Mr. Kamara-kay moved from the Anti-Corruption Commission of Sierra Leone to his current role as Risk and Compliance Specialist at the UNICEF Sierra Leone Country Office.
As part of UNICEF’s recruitment process, his EIU-Paris MBA credential, academic verification, and university reference letter were reviewed and accepted. For EIU-Paris, seeing one of our graduates take this step in his professional career is a success we are proud to celebrate.
