Supporting Education Through Scholarship and Online Learning

From Aspiration to Opportunity

Two years ago, university education was an aspiration rather than a certainty for Jenny Rose Antonio-Bangloy. As a foreign domestic worker in Singapore, originally from the Philippines, financial limitations made higher education feel distant, despite her strong desire to pursue formal studies.

Determined to find a way forward, she explored different universities. While many offered recognised programmes, few provided an approach that could realistically fit around full-time work. Her search eventually led her to European International University – Paris, where flexible learning options offered a possible pathway into higher education.

A Scholarship and a New Beginning

After a period of uncertainty, Jenny received confirmation that she was eligible to join the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programme with a full scholarship. This marked the beginning of her academic journey and removed the financial barrier that had previously made university study unattainable.

Being admitted through a scholarship pathway allowed her to focus on learning while continuing her work commitments. Combined with the flexibility of the programme, it gave her the confidence to begin her studies with purpose and determination.

Studying Anytime, Anywhere

Balancing full-time domestic work with university study required discipline, planning, and adaptability. Jenny reorganised her daily routine to integrate learning into everyday life, making use of every available moment.

She accessed online course materials on her phone and reviewed lessons while commuting or walking the dog, often recording ideas in a small notebook whenever time allowed. Audio learning became a consistent support, helping her use brief moments throughout the day productively. Sundays and public holidays were reserved for focused study in settings such as public transport, libraries, cafés, and other quiet spaces.

“I was grateful that learning at EIU is very convenient and that it inspires me even more to keep going. I can study anytime, anywhere without pressure.”

Learning Through Accessibility and Commitment

As a foreign worker in Singapore, Jenny relied on public libraries, free resources, and basic study materials to support her academic work. Her experience reinforced the idea that education is not defined by expensive tools, but by access, commitment, and opportunity.

Throughout the programme, she reflected on each module, connecting academic learning to real-life experience and strengthening her understanding of the value of formal education. While the journey required persistence and personal discipline, she remained focused on completing her studies and making the most of the opportunity available to her.

Learning Without Boundaries

Jenny does not describe her journey as easy, nor does she claim perfection. Instead, her experience highlights persistence — continuing despite fatigue, time constraints, and competing responsibilities. Her learning journey was shaped by discipline, adaptability, and determination.

Now a graduate of the Bachelor of Education programme, her story demonstrates how accessible learning models, supported by institutional pathways and personal commitment, can open opportunities for higher education across very different life circumstances.

“From domestic worker to Bachelor of Education graduate — made possible through EIU’s full scholarship and flexible learning model. Yes, it is possible to study anytime, anywhere.”
