Currently serving as Cloud Security & Services Manager at Paramount Computer Systems in the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Stephenson brings nearly two decades of experience in helping organisations strengthen the security of their digital systems and navigate an increasingly complex cyber landscape.
While years of industry experience provided valuable practical insight into securing critical digital infrastructure, Dr. Stephenson believed that continued growth also meant contributing new knowledge through research. This aspiration led him to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science and Engineering at EIUโParis, where he focused his research on strengthening cybersecurity for the next generation of aviation technologies.
Research with Practical Impact
Rather than pursuing a doctoral degree solely as an academic achievement, Dr. Stephenson approached his Ph.D. with a practical objective: addressing emerging security challenges within one of the world’s most safety-critical industries.
His work examined how Digital Twin systems used in modern aviation can be protected against evolving cyber threats while maintaining the reliability, integrity, and performance required in real-time operations. Through the development and validation of an aviation-grade security framework, he explored ways to strengthen trust, resilience, and security across increasingly connected digital ecosystems.
His journey reinforced an important principle: cybersecurity extends beyond technology alone. In aviation, protecting the integrity of data also supports safety, operational reliability, informed decision-making, and public confidence.
Strengthening Professional Practice Through Research
Balancing doctoral research with the responsibilities of a senior cybersecurity professional required discipline, resilience, and consistency. Alongside strategic planning, customer engagement, solution architecture, and technology consulting, Dr. Stephenson dedicated evenings and weekends to research, experimentation, technical writing, and academic publication.
